The multiple choice part of the theory test consists of 50 questions drawn from the DVSA question bank, covering the Highway Code, road signs, vehicle safety and driving best practice. You have 57 minutes to complete this section.
You must answer at least 43 out of 50 correctly to pass this section. Questions are displayed one at a time on screen and you can flag questions to review before submitting.

There are 75 possible hazard points and you need at least 44 to pass. You score higher for spotting hazards earlier. You cannot score if you click repeatedly (the system detects this).

The DVSA driving theory test has 50 multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 43 correctly (86%) to pass.
You have 57 minutes to complete the 50 multiple-choice questions. The hazard perception section adds a further 20 minutes (14 video clips, 75 possible hazard points).
You need to score at least 44 out of 75 in the hazard perception test to pass. Each clip contains at least one developing hazard, and one clip contains two.
A DVSA theory test pass certificate is valid for 2 years. You must pass your practical driving test within this window, otherwise you will need to retake the theory test.
The DVSA theory test costs £23. You can book online at gov.uk/book-theory-test. Cancellations must be made at least 3 clear days in advance for a refund.
